Marco Sturm Jersey | Game-Worn Boston Bruins 2005/2006

Marco Sturm became the first German forward to build a long, high-level NHL career. The San Jose Sharks selected him 21st overall in the 1996 NHL Draft. He later played for Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, Vancouver and Florida. Across 938 regular-season games, Sturm recorded 487 points. His speed, scoring touch and consistency helped establish a path for the generation of German NHL forwards that followed.

After retiring, Sturm moved directly into coaching. First, he led Germany’s national team from 2015 to 2018. He guided the country to a historic Olympic silver medal in PyeongChang. Later, Sturm joined the Los Angeles Kings organization as an NHL assistant. Afterward, he became head coach of the AHL’s Ontario Reign. In June 2025, the Boston Bruins named Sturm their head coach. He became the first Germany-born head coach in NHL history. In his first season, he led Boston back to the playoffs. In addition, his successful transition from player to coach expanded his impact on German hockey at the highest level.
