Leon Draisaitl has developed into the most successful German scorer in NHL history. The Edmonton Oilers selected the Cologne-born forward third overall in the 2014 NHL Draft. After a short adjustment period, he became one of the league’s elite offensive players. In 2019–20, Draisaitl won the Art Ross Trophy, Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award. He later added the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy after leading the NHL with 52 goals in 2024–25. His combination of strength, vision and finishing ability has made him a central figure in Edmonton’s attack.

Draisaitl also helped the Oilers reach consecutive Stanley Cup Finals in 2024 and 2025. In addition, he has represented Germany at major tournaments throughout his career. He captained the national team at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, with Moritz Seider and Tim Stützle serving as alternates. By that stage, Draisaitl had already established himself as Germany’s all-time NHL points leader. Overall, his career has raised the profile of German hockey and set a new standard for players from the country.
