Player biography
Jochen Hecht was one of the most durable German forwards of his NHL generation. He played 892 regular-season games for the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers and Buffalo Sabres. Hecht spent most of his NHL career in Buffalo, where his two-way game and versatility made him a trusted forward. His best NHL season came in 2006–07, when he recorded 56 points for a strong Sabres team.
Before and after his North American career, Hecht also played for Adler Mannheim. He won three German championships with the club in 1997, 1998 and 2015. In addition, he represented Germany at several World Championships, three Olympic tournaments and two World Cups of Hockey. After retiring as a player, Hecht moved into coaching and development roles. Later, he worked with Adler Mannheim and the German national team in several positions. In 2024, he joined the Nürnberg Ice Tigers as an assistant coach. He remained part of Nürnberg’s coaching staff for the 2026–27 season.
