Marco Sturm was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 1996 and played 14 NHL seasons from 1997 to 2013. The speedy winger recorded his best years with San Jose and the Boston Bruins and became one of the most prominent German skaters of his generation. Internationally, he represented Germany at multiple major tournaments.
After his playing career, Sturm moved into coaching, led Germany to Olympic silver in 2018 and later worked in the Los Angeles Kings organization. In June 2025, he was named head coach of the Boston Bruins, becoming the first Germany-born head coach in NHL history.
